Annual Meeting of the Congregation and Luncheon

The Annual Meeting of the Congregation takes place every year in February immediately following the 11:00 am service. We gather in Coleman Hall during this meeting for a light lunch. Each Ministry Team submits reports for their 2019 programs.

Heritage Sunday - TBA
Dedicated to the Glory of God on September 13, 1885, First Presbyterian Church of Highlands has welcomed people for 135 years, no matter who you are, where you have come from, or why you are here. We are Christ's people, and this is Christ's place with its doors open wide. Heritage Sunday, celebrated annually, was first celebrated on July 22, 2012, and is a time to give thanks for God's grace that has strengthened this congregation for 135 years.

Annual July 4th Patriotic Mini-Concert
First Presbyterian Church presents the annual patriotic mini-concert at 8:00 pm every July 4th. This free concert lasts approximately 45 minutes, ensuring plenty of time to watch the town fireworks display. Featured singers are the Highlands Men's Chorus under the direction of Dr. Michael Lancaster. Come early to get a good seat!

Interlude Concert Series - Beginning Wednesdays in July
For 21 years, this series of mini-concerts has been sponsored by First Presbyterian Church and the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. The concerts take place every Wednesday at 2 pm and alternate between the two churches each week. Dress is informal, and there is no admission charge for the event. Interlude programs are a ministry in music to our many visitors, members, and friends, providing a time to reflect, to be refreshed, and to be renewed. Come and enjoy an interlude of music!

Food for Fuel September 6, 2020
In September, our church will host the 8th Annual Food for Fuel Luncheon to support the Highlands Emergency Council's Emergency Fuel Fund. That fund is critical in helping many residents of Highlands heat their homes through the winter months. One of the things that is exciting about this venture is the breadth of involvement that supports this event. First Presbyterian's Mission Ministry Team partnered with the Congregational Care Ministry Team hosts the event. This event is widely embraced by this congregation and the Highlands community and takes place in Coleman Hall from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Come support the Highlands Emergency Council, invite your friends and family, enjoy a delicious meal and share your blessings as we warm the homes of others. Call the church office at 828-526-3175 for more information.

Empty Bowls October 4, 2020
The Empty Bowls project is an international effort to fight hunger. Guests are asked to purchase a hand-thrown bowl to be filled with soup and then kept as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. All proceeds will benefit the Food Pantry of Highlands, a collaborative project between The International Friendship Center and the Highlands United Methodist Church. The soup bowls are hand-thrown by volunteer potters at the Bascom Center for the Visual Arts. There will also be a silent auction of special bowls created and donated by professional potters at the Bascom. Call the church office at 828-526-3175 for more information.
