The Sonshine School Afterschool Program assists parents by providing a safe, Christian, caring environment for children after school. We strive to create a clean, nurturing atmosphere where a child can grow spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. As a Christian center with affiliation to the First Presbyterian Church, we will provide a moral and spiritual environment where each child is treated with respect.
Children in grades K-4th grade are eligible to attend our program. We are open daily, Monday thru Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We help parents by assisting students with completing homework, providing daily literacy activities, and engaging students in enrichment activities to balance learning. For more information or to enroll your child please contact the church office.
AA meets Monday and Tuesday at 5:30 and Wednesday & Friday at 12:00 noon every week in the lower level of the Faith and Fellowship Center.
Let there be food in my house. Put me to the test, says the Lord of Hosts, and see if I do not open the windows of heaven and pour a blessing on you as long as there is a need.”
First Church was given a wonderful opportunity to provide USDA commodity food to those in need by serving as a distributor for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). The food is provided at no charge by the US and NC Departments of Agriculture through Manna Food Bank in Franklin and comes to us through The International Friendship Center. Loaves and Fishes began in November of 2009 and been successful ever since.
TEFAP is available to any resident of Macon County whose income is at or below 130% of the federal poverty line and must be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Clients must fill out an application declaring family size and financial need. We will provide a translator to assist those who cannot speak English.
The food is delivered to us from Manna Food Bank on the second Friday of every month which volunteers help repack so that it can be distributed to clients on the following Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. If you would like to help or want more information, please contact the church office.
